Accessory Review: Plastic Foilcutter

The dilemma! You've had a party, bottles of wine were opened all night long. You wake up the next morning hung over, dried out and more than a little disoriented. It is then that you notice blood on your pillow and when you look for the source, you notice a variety of cuts on your fingers and hands.

You're fairly sure that you weren't wrestling angry possums again, you can't for the life of you figure out where the cuts came from.

It is then that you realize "cutting" all that foil on the wine bottles is the culprit. Pending on how silly everything was, you might have cuts on your lips too, and the foul taste of aluminium in your mouth. You don't have to do this to yourself anymore! No longer face the shock of cut up fingers the morning after opening up one too many wine bottles! Buy yourself a foil cutter.

Plastic foil cutters are available at a variety of speciality and department stores. Occasionally they have magnets on them, so you can keep them on your fridge door; which is handy if you're having trouble remembering where you keep things. I often find myself searching the fridge door for all kinds of household items when I've lost my sense of balance; but enough about me back to the foil cutter.

You simply place the foil cutter over the top of the wine bottle, squeeze and twist. Voila the foil is removed without slicing your digits! I am fairly certain life was more painful before I purchased one of these.

However, the plastic ones although inexpensive tend to be poorly constructed and break/lose their edge fairly quickly. It is quite disappointing when this happens, and usually when it does it is at a point in the party where no one is capable of driving to get a new one. So, I have to rate the plastic foil cutter with low marks, extremely useful and good but not the ideal solution. For the ideal solution look for another review coming up soon.
