So, you don't like the white wine or what?

A nice, fruity Viognier is good on a hot summer evening. Not the time of year we are in but it still works with spicy food, particularly spicy asian cuisine.

Which white wines do you know you like? Chardonnay? Sauvignon Blanc?

For me it was always about my diet. Coming from a very meat and potatoes German family, I was raised to be more familiar with reds - beef and Cabernet Sauvignon went together in our household like peas and carrots - of course, we never actually ate peas and carrots, because those were damned vegetables! Since giving up on meat, I've found a greater appreciation for whites, though. Sauvignon Blanc is my usual go-to when in doubt, but I was enjoying Pinot Grigio before it started catching on everywhere.

Of course, nothing beats the wine drinkers romance with a nice red. Maybe white is less iconic, somehow.
